It Takes Confidence to be Carefree

逍遙自在 (xiāo yáo zì zài), which roughly translates to “free and unfettered, being your own person wherever and whenever you are”.  Usually, whenever I practice calligraphy or penmanship, I tend to deliberately choose words or phrases that have meanings or lessons that I can learn from and to have it, hopefully, embedded in me by the end of the practice session.

With 逍遙自在, I learned that it actually takes a certain amount of confidence to be truly carefree…at least that’s what my somewhat shaky penmanship is telling me.

ugly penmanship that shows a lack of confidence makes me realize that being carefree needs a zing of confidence too.
